The Cosmopolitan Hotel of Las Vegas has a high standard for it's attractions. So while the rest of Las Vegas is melting your face with laser porn and 50 foot exploding entrées, The Cosmo chooses to be a bit classier and a bit different. Case in point- the last installation I was involved with was an eye-catching mechanically enhanced backlit tryptic. This time, they asked us to concept and produce a physical installation that would attract social posts and also give a point of interaction for the guests. They got The Lucky Cat.
Living at the Droog space next to the casino floor, the Lucky Cat stands 9 feet tall on a white platform. Digital Kitchen teamed up with Storyland Studios to fabricate the chrome-clad cat as the main attraction in the space, with items of luck and fortune displayed around the surrounding area. Guests are invited to approach the cat and place their palm on it's raised paw. A touch sensor triggers embedded lighting and a card dispenser inside of the cat's body to eject a printed fortune from the cat's collar. All of the fortunes wish an untraditional stroke of luck to the guest, but some also gave away promotional items and services from the hotel. Digital Kitchen teamed up with Storyland Studios to fabricate this beast, and it's currently on display to sway the odds in your favor.
